Buy This, Not That: put your green where it counts!
Did you know that those microbeads – the tiny bits of plastics in your beauty care products and even toothpaste – are going into our waterways, absorbing a ton of toxins, getting eaten by fish, and are making their way back to you in your sushi? (And here’s a quick little animated short that explains why that is so dangerous.)
For example, one product, Neutrogena’s “Deep Clean”, contains an estimated 360,000 microbeads in a single tube. Definitely avoid the products that use them, and instead if you want to naturally exfoliate, scrub with Epsom salts. For a body scrub, I used Epsom salts mixed with olive oil and was all ‘a glow. (You can also sub brown or white sugar for Epsom salts and throw in a few drops of your fav essential oils for an extra-tasty smelling eco scrub).
Wanna go one step further? Ban the bead. A lot of cool, caring peeps like you have already started to make a difference with legislation, but the initiative still needs your help.
